Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead. Death followed by death on Sleepy Hollow's possible last episode ever. Sleepy Hollow's one of my personal favourites, this season was not as strong as the first one, but still managed to deliver some marvelous episodes. The season 2 finale had it all, Ichabod & Abbie's critically acclaimed duo dynamic, The Horsemen of Death, Katrina's wicked attitude, founding father Benjamin Franklin & Grace Dixon.
Everything that made Sleepy Hollow good was present on the season finale, the time-travelling plot was an unexpected twist from last week's episode. This week, the episode was a complete follow-up, it picked up the moment in which we were left wondering the fate's of our heroes.
The main problem for Abbie was meeting Ichabod for the very first time on the past, she had to tell him the truth & convince him about letting her go & helping her stop an ally of the forces of evil (Katrina). In the course of the episode, everything that Abbie said started to make sense, the attack on Ichabod's battalion that was supposed to end his life & the revelation of personal details about him.
He believed her, so that he took her to Franklin's location, because he could be able to help them defeat the threats that conspired against humanity's fate. The founding father believed it all, he was excited to know that he'll be remembered & even more relevant on the future, rejoiced of his accomplishments, he sent Ichabod to search for some documents, because he knew that Abbie was not telling them something crucial. As a result, he questioned her & she admitted that Katrina Crane was the one who casted the time-travelling spell, in order to get rid of his husband.
Afterwards, The Horsemen of Death made an appearance, Abbie, Ichabod & Franklin were ready to fight, abominably, he overcame their efforts to defeat him & axed the founding father, therefore changing history forever.
After that terrible loss to the Independence War, Abbie was again incarcerated & Ichabod didn't trust her anymore. Nevertheless, he wanted to be sure that he was making the right choice, so that he searched on Abbie's cellphone & found a video the two had shot, consequently convincing Ichabod that everything she said about being from the future was the absolute truth.
They went to Fredericks' manor to seek help from Grace Dixon, who immediately accepted what they told her. She started to cast a very powerful spell that could revert the casted by Katrina & undo all the things that they messed up when they got to the past. In order for her to do that, Ichabod had to fight The Horsemen of Death himself & Katrina, his now-evil sorceress wife.
Katrina, was such a boring character for all of us, it always felt that the writers didn't know what to do with her. She did not worked as a damsel in distress or as an ally for the witnesses. We were even wondering if her powers were as powerful as everyone said they were. At last, they figured out a way to make us care about her existence, by making Mrs. Crane embrace her dark side & succumb to the powers of evil.
In conclusion, they both came back to the future & Ichabod made the brave & wise decision to let her go by killing her for good, so she could not hurt anybody ever again. It all ended with 'Team Sleepy' reunited once again, more than ready to face whatever's next. This left the door open in case the show is renewed, if not, this was a proper send-off.
The verdict from 'Tempus Fugit' reflects the impact it had on me as a viewer, as well as plot-related issues.
