Manipulation, international affairs, political campaigns, abuse of power, lack of strength, media coverage & death on House of Cards' latest season.
The critically acclaimed show knows how to please his die-hard fans by offering a new perspective on Frank, since he now is the president of the United States of America.
Our favourite iconic TV character, Frank Underwood, wanted all; power, respect & to be glorified forever marking history. He ascend the political scale, since he went from House Majority Whip to appointed President of the US.
He struggled a lot, he tried so hard to win people's approval, sadly for him, his lack of charisma got the best of him. Frank knew his time on the White House was running out, that's why he wanted so badly to make his time on the Oval Office count. He tried to develop a new kind of project that could help him have that glory & recognition he always wanted. Plus, an assured re-election.
In addition, he had to negotiate several times with Russia's president Petrov, he was a despicable man, that wanted to obtain benefits every time he dealt with another nation. He even dared to kiss Claire, the First Lady on the mouth at a event on the White House in front of everybody, including Frank. I laughed a lot when Frank said the following: "I'd push him down the stairs and light his broken body on fire just to watch it burn". He clearly wanted to repeat what he did with Zoe Barnes, getting rid of his enemies by pushing them with his own hands.
This season, Claire was more than stellar. I have deep admiration for her, because she did not want to be Frank's sidekick anymore, she wanted to have something of her own, a project to work on or a tittle. She obtained it by convincing Frank it was the best for her career path, she became an ambassador of the UN, sadly her time there was troubled by the complicated situation on the Jordan Valley, it even make Frank's chaotic government worse, so the only thing to do was to sacrifice Claire's new role, among other things.
It's worth mentioning that the sacrifice was what destroyed for complete the marital relationship between those two. She didn't want to comply anymore, her sidekicking times are over, because she finally had a taste of what it is to matter, to be independent & important on her own. She does not want to live under Frank's shadow anymore & we understand it. At the epic season 3 finale, she took her life under her own care, she told Francis that she was leaving him for good, forcing her own path towards independence. Good job girl! Nowadays, more than ever, women are independent & live in a world in which they are sufficiently capable of superating men in everything, she's out to prove that.
Plus, I'm glad that Doug boring story is over, with Rachel death, he can now come back to work for Frank at the White House, the master of manipulation needs its pawns & Doug Stamper is a formidable one.
Frank has won a lot of new rivals on this season; Petrov, Jackie Sharp, Heather Dunbar, Hector Mendoza, Bob Birch & many many more. We all know that Frank Underwood is capable of taking his enemies down, one by one. The thing this time is that there are too many & in powerful places, he cannot handle them all, specially since he now 's on his own. We hope that on season 4, he takes some of them out the way, since there are a lot of train stations all over D.C.
This season, Kevin Spacey's performance was outstanding, he manages to impress us every time he's on screen, he made the character of Francis Underwood his own & demonstrate us how talented he is.
With a presidential sit to win & without Claire's support, let's see how it all turns out for President Underwood. He has faith that America Works will guarantee him another term on the Oval Office, I'm intrigued to see what's next for him on the writer's agenda. Another lover? Will he fall? Will he rise? Season 4 we are waiting for you with open arms.
The verdict from House of Cards' season 3 reflects the impact it had on me as a viewer, as well as plot-related issues.
